“Life just seems so full of connections. Most of the time we don't even pay attention to the depth of life. We only see flat surfaces.”

Every connection we make is a thread in the fabric of our lives. Some may be brief like a conversation with a stranger in the grocery line or they may last our lifetimes, like the connection we have with the ones we love most. Some connections are made, then severed but they can never really be disconnected from who we are can they? Some are made and neglected until another brings us full circle and the connection is made again, or, mended so to speak. I’ve gone through life believing that who I was is made up of what I am doing right now. I was a soldier once, a carpenter and a machinist. I spent most of my time working as a printer and now I am what many would call a drug counselor. Truth is I am just a former addict helping other addicts find freedom through Christ. I thought that my makeup is what it is because of my last life altering experience, whatever it may have been. I was once a homeless man, was once a student and was once a minister. What I have learned since joining facebook is; I am who my connections in life have woven me to be. There is a part of all of you entwined within the tapestry of who I am. I have many memories that I love to share of so many of you and I am sure there are many more that when the time comes will be brought to my recollection so that we can reminisce and mend a frayed thread. There is one connection I have made in life however that ties us all together, His name is Jesus. In writing this article I have read up a little on weaving and knitting just to get more of an understanding of what it is that He is telling me. And I have learned one very important rule to them both. This rule, by the way, can be applied to our lives as well. If this fabric that has been woven is left without that final stitch that holds it together it will unravel and fall apart. In weaving you need a hem and in knitting to secure the final stitches or “wale” the method is called “binding off”. That is what Christ has done for me. He has bound all the connections I have ever made and kept them from unraveling. It wasn’t so long ago that I had turned my back on every connection I have ever made and allow my life to unravel and it did actually fall apart. Truth be told in that time of my life very few of you ever crossed my mind and I was empty inside because of that. When my life was rescued Jesus mended every fray, He tightened every loose knot and He bound us all together. I think of you often and am blessed to have ever known each and every one of you. My life is a rich tapestry of color and beauty because of you and I am eternally grateful to call each of you my friend.
May God bless you all as He has blessed me.
